Beginner Level

Supplies:
4” of small link chain
1 pair of ear wires
2 7-mm jump ring
1 foot of 24 gauge wire
2 head pins
2 eye pins
2 large black round beads
2 top drilled leaf beads
2 5x7 faceted glass drops

Tools needed:
Round nose pliers
Chain nose pliers

Wire cutters

You can make the dangle as long as you like, this pair the chain is 2” in length for the dangle, precut your chain to the desired length.

Step 1: (Pictures 1 through 7)

Cut the 24 gauge wire in half.  Now you have 6” to wrap each top drilled leaf.  String the leaf so it is in the middle of the wire (Pic. 1).  Take the ends of wire and bend them so the cross over each other just at the top of the leaf, now place the round nose pliers at the cross and gently grip one of the tails of wire (Pic. 2)  Now bend the wire over and around the nose of the pliers (Pic. 4)  This is the beginning of your loop.  Now move the other tail up onto the loop you just created, then with the round nose pliers place both loops flat in between the nose the tool (Pic. 5; another pair of chain nose works well too.) Take the chain nose pliers and grab the tail (the one that is apart of the loop) and wrap it tightly around both wires. (Pics. 6 & 7) Once you wrap the tail around tightly and as many times as you like or need, cut off the excess with the wire cutters and pinch in or file any nub of wire that may be sticking out.  Repeat these steps and wrap the other leaf drop.  See picture 8 for the final look.

Finished Leaf Drop:

Step 2: (Pictures 9 through 12)
Now string on the 5x7 faceted glass drops onto the head pins.  Place the round nose pliers just above the bead, leaving a small gap.  Using the round nose pliers (not your hand).  Bend the wire away from you at a 90 degree angle, keep your pliers stationary. (Pic. 9)

Now with your hand, bend the wire over top the pliers and all the way down towards you.  This creates the beginning of the loop. (Pic. 10)  Now take the loop off the pliers and replace it on the bottom nose of the tool, this will allow you to finish the loop by bending the wire underneath the pliers and away from you at a 90 degree angle (Pic. 11) Now take the chain nose pliers and grip the end of the tail.  Wrap it tightly and snuggly underneath the loop, continue down until you get to the bead, making sure that each wrap is underneath the last one you did and not over lapping or going down at an angle.  If you have to switch hands to make it more comfortable to hold then do so, getting used to the tools and what is comfortable too you is key in wire working.  (Pic. 12 )

Steps 3 & 4: (Pictures 13 through 15)
Open the jump ring pliers (at the side not against the shape of the circle) String on both the faceted drop and the wrapped leaf loop, also add a 2” length of chain.  Close the jump ring securely. (Pic. 13)  Now take the eye pins and open them like you did the jump rings and slide on the other end of chain, close this loop securely as well.   String on the large black bead and create another loop, like you did with the faceted drops.  (Pic. 14 & 15) Once you have both eyes pins looped and wrapped, open the loop on the ear wires and place the drops on then close securely.

Now you have fun dangle earrings that would make any Halloween witch envious!
